Celebrate the Lunar New Year with WIFT Austin!

The year of the Tiger is just around the corner, let's usher in Health, Wealth, and Prosperity together and keep the new year spirit going. Join us virtually in celebration of the Lunar New Year on Feb. 1st at 6pm CST. We will be connecting virtually with Asian/Asian-American talent with a virtual table read of 2 scripts followed by feedback and Q&A.

This event is FREE for both WIFT Austin members and the general public so please come and feel free to invite your friends.

Writer Bios:

Cathy Tang is an award winning writer/director originally from China. She immigrated to New York City at the age of eight and began writing stories to make sense of her strange new world. Her short films, Mama Tang and Instafriends, have played at multiple festivals in the US and Canada. Cathy currently lives in Vancouver, Canada where she has worked as an assistant director and director's assistant on various independent and studio productions, including the Netflix hit To All The Boys I've Loved Before 3. She is a graduate of the UCLA Professional Program in Screenwriting, and her horror comedy script The B Word was a second-rounder at the Austin Film Festival in 2021.

Kevin D. Wong is a Bay Area-based director, editor, and producer. Following a stint at Lucasfilm's ILM he ventured out into the world of freelance filmmaking where he writes, directs, edits and otherwise renders both fiction and nonfiction films. He was a 2016 BAVC National Media Maker fellow and is currently an SFFilm Filmhouse resident. Wong's feature screenplay Nellie was a 2nd round selection in the 2013 Sundance Screenwriters Lab.

Vanessa Moreno Gentry works on film projects of all kinds as a writer, editor, and producer. By day Vanessa manages digital content creation at Portal A, and by nights and weekends produces films, including the Lynn Chen-starring Jus Soli and 2022 SF IndieFest selection Return Service. Vanessa likes hanging out with people and cats, biking during golden hour, and admiring the moon.
